An Overview of the Proposed Funding Plan for Education

Student associations presented reports on the strike movement and their actions to date at the department staff meeting on 09/03/2012.

One of the graduates’ spokesperson Annie Lalancette, a PhD candidate and part-time instructor presented for GEOGRADS on the government’s funding plan that includes tuition increases. A major concern of graduate students in the GPE department is the plans proposed shift from public funding towards more private and corporate funding sources. Specifically, how the plan for more private funding could influence the diversity and autonomy of current and future research.

Graduates proposed hosting a workshop for students, professors, faculty, and staff to discuss the plan and if possibly coordinate activities in opposition to the proposed funding shift. Check back in the coming days for information on the date and time of the workshop.
